NUVIA joined FusionFest alongside the ILIOS consortium to support the next phase of fusion energy delivery in the UK.

Earlier this week, ILIOS team, including our NUVIA members, attended FusionFest alongside STEP Fusion, joining leaders from the industry, government and global fusion community at a pivotal moment for the sector.

The event highlighted a clear shift from scientific ambition to industrial delivery, reinforced by the launch of the UK Fusion Energy Strategy. Backed by £1.3bn of government investment, the strategy sets out a clear pathway to building a world leading fusion energy industry, starting with STEP Fusion at West Burton.

As STEP Fusion’s construction partner, ILIOS (a consortium led by a Kier and NUVIA joint venture with AECOM, architects AL_A and Turner & Townsend, providing specialist support) is proud to play a central role in translating national strategy into a deliverable reality.

Kian Woodward, Managing Director at NUVIA UK, said: “Fusion Fest has been a great opportunity for NUVIA to support our STEP Fusion colleagues at such an important stage of the programme. It’s encouraging to see the focus shifting from ambition to delivery, and we’re proud to bring practical engineering expertise to help turn that vision into reality.”

Simon Matthews, Programme Director for ILIOS, added: “As fusion moves from scientific progress to real world delivery, it’s an exciting time to be part of the conversation. Through ILIOS, we will help establish the foundations needed to make fusion energy a reality.”

STEP Fusion represents a major opportunity for regional growth, with the West Burton site expected to support up to 8,000 onsite jobs, strengthen the local supply chain and anchor long term economic growth. Fusion energy is moving decisively from possibility to delivery, and we are proud to be part of this journey!
