NUVIA engineered and fabricated a fully automated target handling and end-station system for a cyclotron at the Nuclear Physics Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences.
Key details
Scope of work
- Design and manufacture of the target system for irradiation and manipulation of the target capsule before and after irradiation on the cyclotron
- Automated fully automated tube conveyor system station
- Modification of the tube conveyor system ending station, which is located in a semi-hot chamber
- The target station is equipped with a HEPA filter and a hermetic cover to prevent radiation from spreading into the cyclotron room when the target is transferred from the holder to the tube conveyor system
Challenges
- Unique combination of know-how in industrial automation and ionizing radiation measurement
- Complexity of the design solution
- Safety and durability – the devices are located in close proximity to the target holder – all materials had to be radiation resistant
