At NUVIA, we create lasting social value by putting people, communities and integrity at the heart of every project.
At NUVIA, social value is far more than a standalone initiative, it’s part of who we are. It shapes how we invest in people, how we grow capability and how we create positive, long-lasting impact for communities, people and our environment.
Health Physics sits at the heart of this commitment, connecting safety, skills and responsible delivery across our work. We’re investing in meaningful Health Physics careers not only to strengthen today’s workforce, but to build the critical skills the UK needs to keep its energy system resilient and reliable.
Advanced radiation monitoring keeps power stations running safely and efficiently, providing the low‑carbon energy that allows UK homeowners to heat and power their homes. Health Physics skills are both scarce and absolutely essential, which is why we make it our mission to grow them. NUVIA funds qualifications, provides hands-on training, and mentoring to strengthen performance on projects while opening up sustainable specialist careers.
Looking after people and the environment is also a big part of what Health Physics professionals do. They learn practical ways to reduce emissions, improve energy efficiency, manage waste safely and protect the wildlife and habitats around nuclear sites. With careful planning and consistent oversight throughout the nuclear lifecycle, they help keep people and places safe, and they help maintain public trust in how nuclear work is carried out.
Our commitment to social value also extends through our supply chain. By working closely with suppliers, we ensure safety, ethics and sustainability are built into every stage of delivery. We prioritise local businesses wherever possible and champion fair working practices, helping strengthen regional economies and making sure everyone connected to our work benefits from shared, responsible standards.
Developing the next generation of Health Physics talent is a major focus for us. In 2025, we dedicated more than 300 days to foundational training. After six months, every trainee progressed to the Health Physics Monitor NVQ Level 2 through our own assessment centre, a model that removes barriers, speeds up progression and keeps quality consistent across the group. With support from experienced mentors and the
addition of our first Radiation Protection Graduate, we’re actively shaping the future of this critical discipline.
We’re just as committed to opening the wider nuclear sector to more people. Our Nuclear Careers Evenings help demystify the industry and show how a huge range of skills can transfer into meaningful roles, including Health Physics. Our most recent event welcomed more than 650 people, from career changers and service leavers to those returning to work, and brought together 25 organisations offering real job pathways and development opportunities. By focusing on skills rather than traditional entry routes, we help make nuclear a career sector that feels open, accessible and welcoming to everyone.
Inclusion is part of everyday life at NUVIA. We are proud supporters of the Armed Forces community. As signatories of the Armed Forces Covenant, we offer additional paid leave for reservists and provide clear, supported routes into civilian careers for service leavers. Their leadership, resilience and problem-solving skills enrich our teams, and in 2025 we achieved the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Bronze Award, with work already underway towards Silver in 2026.
Over the past year, we achieved Disability Confident Level 2, expanded our Inclusion Champions network and strengthened lived experience representation in decisions that affect colleagues. Our Generational subgroup now advises senior leaders, helping ensure our policies reflect what people need at different stages of life. With year-round awareness and education events, covering topics like women in science, neurodiversity, hidden disabilities, flexible working, Pride and more, we continue to build a workplace where everyone feels seen, respected and supported to thrive.
As Health Physics Director Greg Antil says: “As our work continues to evolve, our ambition remains clear. We will keep championing the nuclear sector as an exciting and accessible place to build a career, while investing in the people, partners and communities who help make it possible. Social value is a shared effort, and NUVIA will continue to lead by example.”
At NUVIA, we’re building more than careers, we’re building confidence, opportunity and long‑lasting social value. As we expand our Health Physics capability, our commitment to people, communities and sustainable delivery remains at the heart of everything we do.
